Plant Information

  • Plant Type: Shrub: Small
  • Scientific Name: Hydrangea macrophylla 'Bailmer'
  • Zone: 4
  • Plant Size: 3-4'
  • Bloom Time: Summer
  • Bloom Color: Blue, Pink
  • Culture:

Adaptable. Requires adequate moisture. Full sun to shade.

  • Notes:

This was the first in an expanding series of bigleaf hydrangea cultivars that bloom on both old and new growth, allowing culture in northern climates where annual stem dieback destroys the old growth required for flower production on typical H. macrophylla varieties. The flower color of all bigleaf hydrangeas is dependent on soil pH, with pink flowers produced in neutral to alkaline soils and blue flowers in acid soils. Does not always perform well in the upper Midwest.
